USA and China Dominate Paris Olympics, Sharing Gold Medal Lead

The United States edged out China in the final medal count of the Paris Olympics, clinching the top spot with 40 golds, matching China’s tally but surpassing them overall with 126 total medals compared to China's 91. The decisive victory came from the U.S. women's basketball team, who narrowly defeated France 67-66, securing their eighth consecutive Olympic title.

India finished in 71st place, earning six medals—five bronze and one silver.

The final day of the Games was highlighted by a thrilling women's marathon, where Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands won gold in an Olympic record time, adding to her previous two bronze medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m.

The closing ceremony at Stade de France, anticipated to feature Hollywood star Tom Cruise, marks the handover to Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics.

Sunday also saw champions crowned in wrestling, weightlifting, water polo, volleyball, modern pentathlon, and track cycling. In weightlifting, China's Li Wenwen celebrated by lifting her coach, and in water polo, Serbia secured their third consecutive gold by defeating Croatia.

The curtain falls on Paris, but the spotlight now turns to Los Angeles, where Hollywood flair is expected to shine.
