PM Modi Meets Macron, JD Vance At France AI Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Paris on Monday for a high-profile visit, beginning with a welcome dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. Upon arrival, Macron greeted his “friend” Modi with a warm hug, later posting on X, “Welcome to Paris, my friend @narendramodi,” along with a video of their meeting.

During the dinner, Modi interacted with several world leaders attending the AI Action Summit, including US Vice President JD Vance, marking their first meeting since Vance assumed office last month. The Prime Minister's Office shared photos of their discussions, highlighting the growing global interest in AI and digital cooperation.

Earlier, Modi received an enthusiastic welcome from the Indian diaspora in Paris. Expressing gratitude, he said, “A memorable welcome in Paris! The cold weather didn't deter the Indian community from showing their affection. Grateful to our diaspora and proud of their accomplishments.”

This marks Modi’s sixth visit to France, with a key focus on reviewing progress under the 2047 Horizon Roadmap—a strategic blueprint for deepening India-France ties across defense, technology, and trade.

Following the AI Summit, Modi and Macron will travel to Marseille, where Macron will host a special dinner in the Indian leader’s honor. On Wednesday, the two will visit the Mazargues War Cemetery, paying tribute to Indian soldiers who fought in World War I. They will also inaugurate the Consulate General of India in Marseille, enhancing diplomatic presence in the region.

The visit will conclude with a trip to Cadarache, home to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER)—a global project on clean nuclear fusion energy, where India is a key partner.

The AI Action Summit, a major highlight, will bring together world leaders and industry experts to discuss the ethical and responsible use of AI, shaping future policies and innovations.
